I seem to have a lot of people in my life recently that are going through transitions.

Big changes in their life.

▶ Some have sold their businesses and had nice exits.

▶ Others are sunsetting their businesses.

▶ Other people are laid off from a job…later in their careers.

What's interesting about all this is a lot of these changes were desired.

In many cases, people were tired of what they were doing.

They wanted something different.

But in the end these things don't happen on your timeline.

They're often not under your control.

Even if you wanted change, when it's on somebody else's timeline, it can be really disruptive.

And you're only used to seeing yourself in the way that you're before the change.

And so now all of a sudden:

▶ Your business is not there.

▶ Your job is not there anymore.

▶ Something else significant in your life has changed.

Even if you wanted some change, now you have to figure out what to do next.

And that can be hard. Change is hard.

I like to take time when this is happening for me to really evaluate what experiences am I looking for?

What do I want my life to feel like in this new stage, before I jump into the next thing.

I have some people I'm helping now.

Their initial ideas are:

▶ I want to get my resume together and send something out…but they were burnt at their job.

▶ I want to start a business in the same industry that my old business was in…but they hated their old business.

Why are you doing that? It’s safe and familiar.

I really encourage them to take some time, meditate and visualize what you want this new version of your life to look like.

Then you can start to map out a course towards taking steps towards that.

Otherwise you're going to likely recreate what you had before.

It can be painful and a bit scary.

It's hard. It's disruptive.

If you take your time, you have an opportunity to recreate something really new and something really meaningful.

But you have to pause, take your time and you have to be intentional.

This has worked wonders for me.

I'd love to hear about how you're dealing with any changes in your life.

Thank you.
