The Science of Gratitude

You just opened your eyes...and the wheels are already turning.
Sound familiar?
That early morning flood of thoughts, swirling before your feet even hit the floor:
→ “What if we miss this deadline?”
→ “How will the team handle that new client?”
→ “Did I lock in enough cash flow for the next quarter?”
→ “Am I doing enough?”
And of course…I don’t feel like working out today (I do it anyway).
It’s the entrepreneur’s morning brain overload.
(I’m sure it's not just entrepreneurs 🙂)
It can make the day feel overwhelming before it’s even begun.
Here’s what I’ve found that works to clear the mental clutter, so I can show up as the best version of myself for my family, my team and my business.
Every morning, before anyone else is up in my home, I do two things:
1️⃣ Gratitude Meditation
I take a few minutes to think about the things I’m most grateful for—big or small. There’s science behind it. Studies show that starting with gratitude can rewire our brains, reducing stress and improving both mental and physical health.
Note: It’s more powerful if you can make sure you’re adding new things to this list every day.
2️⃣ Journaling
I grab a pen and paper (or my reMarkable) and let my thoughts flow. This practice gets fresh ideas and emotions out on the page, clearing space in my mind for creative problem-solving throughout the day.
These simple but powerful practices set the tone for everything that follows. When I start my day grounded in gratitude and clarity, I’m ready to tackle whatever comes next—with focus and calm, not chaos.
