This video reminded me of a person I worked with a while back.

They were looking to grow their business and they took me through their pitch deck for potential investors.

It was a security company for helping churches that were doing ministry work overseas, to make sure they were safe.  He was passionate about this. It gave his life meaning and purpose and he said he was uniquely qualified to do this work.

After he was done, I started asking him about his background.

▶ He was in military reconnaissance.

▶ He would get dropped into conflict zones like Afghanistan and Iraq.

▶ He would mix in with the local people to figure out who is in control of what and then report back.

This blew me away, and it was not in his pitch deck.

For him, everyone in his unit did this. It did not seem special.

HE did not feel special.

I told him:

“First of all…wow!

Thank you for your service.

You have to lead with this!

For the people you're pitching to, the most dangerous thing they likely have in their lives is merging onto the local interstate during rush hour…your background is exceptional!”

I find that people often don't really see how exceptional they are until they get someone else's perspective.

What are you missing about yourself?

Bring in outside people you trust to learn more.

Stay safe everyone.
